2021 Special Interest Sessions

All synchronous special interest sessions will be held in the Matterhorn Zoom room. As with competitive events, enter the zoom room with your name listed as your ID# so we can verify you are a part of PA-TSA. Links to asynchronous special interest sessions are below.

Parliamentary Procedure 7-8PM  - link to watch
This session is run by the Bylaw And Resolutions Review Committee and will consist of an informational presentation as well as an activity. This session will cover both beginner and advanced parliamentary procedure content.

Life Skills 9-10AM
This special interest session is designed to teach TSA members practical skills they will need when they decide their career paths. It will consist of a number of short lessons regarding various career-based skills in conjunction with external organizations, as well as allowing for members to ask questions. The skills presented in this presentation will be things like public speaking, communication, etc.

STEM Skills to Success 10-11AM
One of the cornerstones of the TSA experience has been the building of valuable skills which are applicable to our futures, and in this interactive presentation, you’ll have the opportunity to learn how different events correspond with external careers and opportunities. Additionally, this will serve to showcase many of the competitive events available which may interest some newer TSA members. A pre-recorded version will be made available asynchronously for those who cannot attend.

Photography 1-2PM
You’ve asked for it, so we are thrilled to introduce the photography special interest session! Come show off your skills to your existing friends and new ones from throughout the state by bringing your best photographs to share with our group. We highly encourage individuals to discuss the thought process and dedicated purpose behind their work to express their creative identities. An asynchronous option will be available.

Engineering Opportunities in College and Beyond! Penn State University 2- 3PM
Are you interested in studying engineering in college? Come here about the many opportunities within engineering from current Penn State engineering students! This session will include a question and answer session. Make sure to bring all your questions about engineering majors, engineering careers, and the college experience. 

What’s Next: Choosing your college? Jefferson University 3-4PM
Join in a candid conversation about picking a college that’s right for you. Learn about the different resources you can use to start looking for a college today. Find out what various opportunities you have and why the college process is different for everyone. Learn the dos and don’ts of picking a college and how to make the process easier. 

Starting Your Career: What’s Next? Jefferson University 4-5PM 
Join a candid conversation about the first steps in your career, the major decisions you will make, and why everyone’s journey is different. Is college the right path for you, and how do you choose where to go? What skills can you start developing now to help you get a headstart in your profession? What is the value of mentorship and how can you make meaningful connections?

Karaoke Night 6-7PM
Karaoke night will use zoom to allow for members to participate. Members will be able to sing a song of their choice and a gift card will be awarded to a winner as determined by a panel of judges.

Committee Meet And Greet 7-8PM - link to watch
This session is run by the state officer team to inform members about the various PA-TSA committees and what they have to offer, through a presentation and an opportunity to talk with the officers. This year, this session will take place on zoom and the breakout rooms feature will allow for participants to learn more about each respective committee at their own will.

Trivia Night 8- 9PM
The Trivia Night session will utilize zoom and the feature of breakout rooms to conduct a trivia game, splitting groups up into various teams. The session will follow the format that a typical trivia night session would, having questions on various relevant topics.

Problem Solving 9-10AM
Do you love the problem solving event or working with your hands on challenging projects? If that is the case, why not check out Problem Solving? This special interest session will be held on Zoom. During this time, the prompt will be posted and students can start their building. When they are ready to be judged, they will enter a breakout room to demonstrate their solution to the problem.

Board Game Tournament 10-11AM
Students will fill out a google form that will determine what games they will play and where they will be placed on the tournament bracket. Students will be contacted and paired with their opponent to set up a time to face off. Students will play the determined game and report the results in a google form. Games will be played on various free websites online. 

Minute To Win It 1-2PM
Minute to Win It is modeled right after the popular game. Before the Zoom session, a list of all the challenges, what is needed for the challenges, and the time frame it will be occurring will be posted. If people want to watch, they are free to join the zoom, but if they want to participate, their cameras must be on. No supplies will be provided.

Minecraft 2-3PM
Individually or in a team, competitors can build/use redstone in creative or survival mode in order to create their designs. The theme will be anything TSA related. Throughout the building process, participants document their builds with screenshots and videos. In a zoom, the members of the subcommittee will share all of the entries and judge the builds at the end of the week or time allowed. 

Team Building Activity 3-4PM
While we may not have a physical state conference this year, the chance to meet and work with some of the greatest students in the state remains open to all who would like to join our annual Team Building Activity Special Interest Session! Students will be put into groups to combine their unique talents to solve a variety of challenges while interacting with peers from other regions.
