United States Army Personal will discuss, and demonstrate some of the most common STEM pieces of equipment used by combat Soldiers daily around the world. This will be an interactive presentation allowing students and teachers access to the U.S. Army’s latest technology.

Rubik’s Speedcube Tournament

How fast can YOU solve the Rubik’s Cube? Well, let’s find out! Join Region 5 as they host the PA-TSA Speedcubing Tournament! Entrants will be asked to solve a 3 x 3 Rubik’s Cube in the fastest time possible. Fun prizes will be awarded to both the middle school and high school levels. Can’t solve the cube–don’t worry–there is no charge for watching the fun!

 

Past Champions Demonstration - a student perspective

Want to learn how to snatch a first place trophy at your next state or national conference? Come down to the Past Champions Demonstration to meet and learn directly from champions of specific events. Both middle school and high school events will be featured (3 events each) so we strongly suggest that you drop by whenever you can for a good time!

 

Scavenger Hunt - Seven Springs/TSA Trivia

Each participant (or team of up to 4 people) will be asked to find items or answer questions about the Seven Springs Mountain Resort and TSA. Prizes will be awarded to the participants with the fastest time and the highest number of correct answers. Be sure to bring something to write with.

“The Intersection of Design, Engineering, and Business”

Presented by Brian George, engineering professor, Philadelphia University

Philadelphia University has combined the schools of Design & Engineering and Business into one college, and students in design, fashion, business, engineering, and textile majors take 4 common courses together. During these classes the students work in groups, often with students that they would otherwise rarely interact with. These interactions have the potential to prepare students for future jobs where they will most likely be working with people from other backgrounds. Learn about these innovative interactions that helps prepare Philadelphia University students for life after college.

 

“Technology and the Design Professions – Are you a ‘Technologist?”

Presented by David Kratzer, architecture professor, Philadelphia University

On one hand, “Technology” is often credited with allowing us to work in new and better ways. Our professions are continuously redefined by its advances – whether they be engineering, architecture, interior design, construction, landscape architecture, geodesign or sustainability. On the other hand, “Design” is often seen as an activity of imagination and creativity. This discussion compares the two with the conclusion that technological imagination may be the most important skill for students facing a dynamic and exciting future.

Philadelphia University has combined the schools of Design & Engineering and Business into one college, and students in design, fashion, business, engineering, and textile majors take 4 common courses together. During these classes the students work in groups, often with students that they would otherwise rarely interact with. These interactions have the potential to prepare students for future jobs where they will most likely be working with people from other backgrounds. “Technology and the Design Professions – Are you a ‘Technologist?”

Presented by David Kratzer, architecture professor, Philadelphia University

On one hand, “Technology” is often credited with allowing us to work in new and better ways. Our professions are continuously redefined by its advances – whether they be engineering, architecture, interior design, construction, landscape architecture, geodesign or sustainability. On the other hand, “Design” is often seen as an activity of imagination and creativity. This discussion compares the two with the conclusion that technological imagination may be the most important skill for students facing a dynamic and exciting future.

Rubik’s Speedcube Tournament

How fast can YOU solve the Rubik’s Cube? Well, let’s find out! Join Region 5 as they host the PA-TSA Speedcubing Tournament! Entrants will be asked to solve a 3 x 3 Rubik’s Cube in the fastest time possible. Fun prizes will be awarded to both the middle school and high school levels. Can’t solve the cube–don’t worry–there is no charge for watching the fun!
