National Update

While your State Officers are hard at work with their initiatives regarding the American Cancer Society and summer opportunities, the National Officer Team has been putting together its plan of work to improve your National TSA experience. After one face-to-face meeting in July and several conference calls and video conferences, we have decided to update TSA’s achievement awards and Honor Society, develop a Promotional Toolkit, and defray the cost of travel and lodging to Nationals.

Many of you are probably familiar with the TSA Gold, Silver, and Bronze achievement awards, as well as the Technology Honor Society Induction. The brainchild of a past national officer team, these distinctions allow students from every state that qualify for these awards to be recognized on stage at one of the general sessions, and rewards them for their commitment to TSA. However, technology is always changing, and with these changes, come new ways to promote TSA and qualify for the Achievement awards and Technology Honor Society. Your National Officer Team is now working on redefining the criteria for both awards to better reflect the technology currently available to us. Keeping these acknowledgements up-to-date and relevant is important to us, and we hope it helps you utilize your technological literacy to promote TSA in the future!

The National TSA Staff, Board, and Officers are always working towards maintaining a strong membership base within schools that already have TSA. To this end, the National Officer Team is working on developing a Promotional Toolkit, eventually available on tsaweb.org, that will disseminate promotional materials to chapters all across the nation, as well as to any international chapters. The toolkit will contain flyers and posters that can be tailored for each school, fundraising strategies, and other helpful documents to ensure a successful year.

As part of ensuring a successful year, the National Officer Team is seeking to make attending the National TSA Conference more financially viable. Through the promotional toolkit, National TSA will provide individual chapters with resources for fundraising and procuring local sponsorships. Included will be fundraising ideas and strategies for compensating local sponsors, making sponsoring a TSA chapter’s trip to Nationals more attractive.

As we move forward with the year and with our initiatives, I want to thank you, PA-TSA, for making my TSA experience, both as a member and as a leader, everything that I could have hoped for. I’ll see you at States, and hopefully Nationals as well. Feel free to email me at nationaltsapresident [at] tsaweb.org for more detailed updates about the National Officer Team’s Plan of Work, or for any other reason at all.
