RE: Regional Participation for Chapters unable to attend 2010 State Conference

  1. All students affiliated with PA-TSA and National TSA will be permitted to compete at Regional Conferences, regardless of their ability to attend the 2010 State Conference.
  2. Chapters who know they will not be permitted to attend the State Conference this year due to PSSA testing should contact their Regional Registrar, Chris Miller (iServices Coordinator), and Lauren Lapinski (State Conference Coordinator) with this information prior to their Regional Conference Registration deadline. Additionally, these same people should be notified if a grade level (i.e. 11th graders will not be permitted to attend). These chapters/students will be identified in iServices and will not be included in the qualifying lists that feed into State Conference Registration. This will help to ensure that the greatest number of students are eligible to attend the State Conference. Please note that the decision to attend the State Conference should be made as either a chapter or a grade level. It should not be made on an individual basis (i.e. Johnny, 11th grade from ABC School can attend, but Billy 11th grader from the same school cannot attend).
  3. Any region with a chapter who is unable to attend will need to report "extra" finalist.  iServices will print the student's name if their chapter is not attending states, for a finalist award, but will "hide" them from the state conference qualifying lists automatically.
  4. If chapters/students change their status and are able to attend the State Conference after the Regional Conference Registration deadline, these students will be welcome to attend/compete with the understanding that they will not be added back to the state conference qualifying lists out of fairness to other chapters/students.
  5. If chapters/students that participate in the Regional Conference but are unable to attend the State Conference wish to compete at the National Conference, they may do so with the understanding that students that competed successfully at the State Conference will be given preference when it comes to event entry maximums (i.e. Digital Photography – 3/state).
  6. Please be proactive with your administration regarding your chapter’s State Conference attendance. Start the conversations early as an initial negative response can be countered with data about your chapter members’ PSSA test performance, chapter members’ positive disciplinary history, and support from individuals like Bob Rudolph, PA-TSA BOD President, Bill Bertrand, National TSA BOD President/PDE Technology Education, and Brandt Hutzel, TEAP President.
