With a vacant seat for the office of Member at Large there will be a special election from October 1 to October 14, 2009. Here are some short biographies on the candidates. Please take the time to read the Bios and vote. Joe Rice - I am the father of a PA-TSA State Vice President Josh Rice. I am currently President and CEO for Big G Tire Co Inc..The years, 1988 through 1995, I was also on the Board of Directors for American Car Care Centers. In 2003 I was elected where I served two years as President of a local Baseball and Softball league. I have worked with Local, State and Federal Government agencies to obtain funds for not only my company, but also non-profit organizations. Corporate funding was a key to the success of the Baseball and Softball league. Because PA-TSA is an intricate part of the educational process, I would like to bring my business experiences to PA-TSA. Funding for any organization has become far more difficult. The economy has caused hardships for teachers and students alike. With the help of the board members we can increase funding for PA-TSA. Please consider my nomination to the PA-TSA Member AT Large Board position. Laura Hummell - As a technology education assistant professor at Cal U of PA, a parent of a PA-TSA member, and co-advisor for a new middle school chapter just beginning its second year, I know what a positive impact Technology Student Association can have on young people. The people I have met who are involved in PA-TSA are some of the hardest working and most conscientious people I have had the pleasure of knowing. I know that not only my students, but also my own children, have learned leadership skills and work standards for a lifetime by being a part of this organization. I want to help further the development and implementation of the leadership, problem solving, technological literacy, and competitive events that PA-TSA has refined over the years. Prior to moving back to Pennsylvania, I was a middle and high school TSA advisor in North Carolina for 13 years. Of all the things that I have done over the years to promote technology education, becoming a Technology Student Association advisor by far has had the most positive outcomes for my students and me. I highly recommend being an active part of a student organization that is dedicated to furthering the principles of leadership, teamwork, and responsibility. I will support the mission of PA-TSA in whatever ways I can. I hope you will consider me for the PA-TSA Member-At-Large Board position. Tanner Huffman - I am a currently Engineering Technology Instructor and TSA/F1 in School advisor at Richland Jr/Sr high school in Johnstown, Pa. I have been involved with TSA for three years and have attended the last two national conferences. I am also the school advisor for our BotsIQ and Real World Design Challenge competitive teams. I also server on the TEAP executive board of directors as Region 3C V.P.
